Safety Fuse is used to fire an explosive from a distance or after a delay.  It is a hollow cord filled with a mixture resembling black powder and designed to propagate burning at a slow and steady rate. The far end of the fuse is usually embedded in the explosive charge. Safety Fuse manufactured by Chamundi Explosives Private Limited comes in Red, Blue, Yellow, Orange, Black & White colours.

There is also a Polycoated Safety Fuse which is used to initiate plain detonators (blasting cap) in opencast mines and quarries. It offers high water and abrasion resistance and a better shelf life. In Polycoated  Safety Fuse, gunpowder is wound in yarn and coated with a layer of bitumen.
